local adventures // north cascades national park

My second Mother's Day was somewhat unconventional, but also a great adventure. For my last weekend in Washington, I really wanted to go on a road trip. My friend Emmie (also a solo mama on Sunday) joined me with her son Dashiell. We piled the babies in the car and opted for a drive on the North Cascades Highway. This was a pretty epic trip from Bainbridge Island, and I have respect on a whole other level for mothers of twins. Henry and Dash are both fairly easy-going, but it turns out that tears are contagious. Despite a few sniffles, it was a beautiful day and a gorgeous drive. We made sure to stop for many a photo-op and a picnic along the way.

Lake Diablo was the last stop on our trek. The water was a dreamy, milky turquoise color and the sun made the lake's surface sparkle like diamonds. I was told the views only get better beyond the lake, but I will have to experience that on my next journey to the Cascades.
