Picking blueberries has been on my summer wishlist for quite some time, so when I recently discovered that we live only 15 minutes away from Winney's Blueberry Farm in Schuylersville, New York, I knew we needed to visit this season.
When we arrived at the farm, a friendly woman simply handed us a bucket and sent us off into the fields. Each row of tall, leafy shrubs was heavy with ripening fruit in shades of green, purple and blue.
As it turns out, picking blueberries is a peaceful, rhythmic activity. There was no need to stop at a single bush; you could glide past each one and take away a handful of berries. With the sun shining, the breeze blowing, and stunning views of mountains, it was nothing short of heavenly.
We stuffed our bellies and our bucket in less than an hour, but I could have stayed all summer.
