We took a family road trip to North Carolina for Memorial Day weekend and it was perfect! As Henry has gotten older, his requests to spend time with family have increased and Peter and I have felt it necessary to travel south as often as we can. Henry lights up when he is surrounded by people who love him and it is heartwarming to watch him form bonds with his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. He seems to understand that they are his family.
This visit was a busy one, but we still managed to relax with family, go to the playground and eat some of our favorite southern foods!
We got into Southern Pines on Friday afternoon, where we celebrated Pennie's high school graduation with the Pyon family.
On Saturday evening, I drove to Raleigh for dinner with my best friends Anna and Nancy, who both have a lot of exciting life changes happening in the next year. I was so happy to celebrate with them and have some solo time! It was much needed.
On Sunday, Peter and I escaped for a little alone time with lunch in Pinehurst and then grilled out and lounged around at home with the family. Peter made a huge feast with grilled chicken wings, shrimp, steak and crab legs!
Monday morning we hit the road back to North Carolina which was surprisingly enjoyable due to our route choice of (220/29/81 North). We completely avoided I-95 and DC traffic and our ride was almost entirely scenic! We passed through Charlottesville, the Shenandoah Valley and plenty of Maryland/ Pennsylvania farmland. We stopped for a picnic at UVA and many leafy rest stops perfect for toddlers. I'm not sure I will ever go back to our old route as this one is entirely non-stressful and provided so many opportunities for memories!
Can we go back?!! I'm ready for my next vacation.
